ALERT: Attention Members:

If you are buying the right to interment in a cemetery plot and you are not dealing directly with the cemetery management firm, then be sure to verify the seller's entitlement to the plot before you complete the transaction. Check with the management of the cemetery where the plot is located to confirm that the seller has the proper entitlement and right to sell the plot. Otherwise, at your eventual time of need, the cemetery may not grant you access to the plot.

VANCOUVER, December 20, 2011:  As recently reported in the Vancouver Sun, Consumer Protection BC has launched a one–stop website providing information to both consumers and licensed funeral services businesses. The site informs consumers about their rights and obligations when dealing with the cremation, interment and funeral services industry. It also features industry news, licensing information, related law, forms, license details and compliance tools such as violation reporting.

VANCOUVER, November 12, 2010:  The Board of Directors of the Memorial Society of BC is pleased to report that Nicole Renwick, the current Executive Director of the Society, has been appointed by the Board for Consumer Protection BC as a member of its Cremation, Interment & Funeral Service Industry Advisory Group. The appointment is for a three year term beginning in November 2010.

Nicole will bring to the Advisory Group her eight years of experience with the Memorial Society, including the last three as Executive Director, during which she has continuously championed for the BC consumer to reduce the cost of end of life services which are provided by the funeral industry throughout BC.
